Book by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan
The key to success is not in all the things that we do, but in the handful of things we do well.
I believe you have relished sipping a wonderful beverage like coffee or tea (Fill this with anything that you like !! ), appreciating its flavor. The ONE thing is one such book, whose content i sipped bit by bit slowly. I enjoyed the read while trying to comprehend and wonder how most of what is said, matches with reality.
The book stresses on the fact that we should always concentrate on a single thing at a time to achieve results out of it. Be it for work or personal life or anything !!
Henry David Thoreau said, " Its not enough to be busy, so are the ants.
The question is what are we busy about ?"
There are so many tasks that we as humans handle everyday, that cause stress, anxiety and what not. But for us to achieve greater improvement in areas of our life, this book suggests that we identify the single important action that would take us to where we want or excel in whatever we try to achieve.
The ways to identify the single most important action and different techniques that would help us identify and execute are very clearly explained and are easy to incorporate.
To sum it up all, as said in the book
Our purpose sets our priority and our priority determines the productivity our actions produce.
On identifying our purpose in different areas of our life, we can list the set of actions to meet our purpose and prioritize them to find and act on the ONE important thing and by giving it our all, we would be in the best place to meet our purpose.
Definitely a must read with a lot of key take-aways that if followed in our day to day life, success looks inevitable.
Some of my favorite lines from the book . . . .
Achievers always work from a clear sense of priority
Extraordinary results are disproportionately created by fewer actions than most realize.
Mutitasking is a lie
Its not that we have too little time to do all the things we need to do, its that we feel the need to do too many things in the time we have.
When you do the right thing, it can liberate you from having to monitor everything.
To achieve an extraordinary result you must choose what matters most and give it all the time it demands. This requires getting extremely out of balance in relation to all other work issues.
The key to success is not in all the things that we do, but in the handful of things we do well.
The research and experience of others is the best place to start when looking for your answer.
Our purpose sets our priority and our priority determines the productivity our actions produce.
Who we are and where we want to go determine what we do and what we accomplish.
Becoming more engaged in what we do by finding ways to make our life more meaningful is the surest way to find lasting happiness. When our daily actions fulfill a bigger purpose, the most powerful and enduring happiness can happen.
I believe that financially wealthy people are those who have enough money coming in without having to work to finance their purpose in life.
The Prescription for extraordinary results is knowing what matters to you and taking daily doses of actions in alignment with it.
Live with purpose and you know where you want to go. Live by priority and you will know what to do to get there.
If disproportionate results come from one activity, then you must give that activity disproportionate time
The path of mastering something is the combination of not only doing the best you can do at it it, but also doing it the best it can be done.
